On this CD, Joel Bello Soares plays pieces for piano by Brazilian composers from the early twentieth century, specifically Heitor Villa-Lobos and Francisco Mignone. Joel Bello Soares was born in Brazil, where he received his first musical training. He continued his studies with Hermínia Roubaud (Rio de Janeiro), Jacques Février (Paris) and Rosa Sabater (Santiago de Compostela). Through intensive artistic activity, Joel Bello Soares obtained, in addition to critical and public acclaim, several prizes, receiving the Medal of the Order of Merit of the President of the Portuguese Republic and the Palmares Commendation from the State of Alagoas, Brazil. He has appeared in concert in Portugal, Spain, England, France, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Australia and Zaire, in addition to the principal Brazilian cities. His professional activities include concerts, recitals, numerous performances with orchestras in the main cities of Brazil, South America and Portugal, courses on piano technique and interpretation, as well as lectures about Brazilian music. As a jury member, Joel Bello Soares has participated in various piano and chamber music competitions in Rio de Janeiro, Juiz de Fora (MG), Saint Cloud (Paris), São Paulo (SP) and in the International Competition of the City of Porto. Joel Bello Soares is currently professor of piano at the University of Brasilia. “A faultless work in technical terms, as the gifts of the pianist Bello Soares are already well known.”
