Madalena Soveral performs, on this CD the works "Litanies du feu et de la mer" – nos. I and II (1969 and 1971, respectively), by Emmanuel Nunes.
EMMANUEL NUNES A contemporary Portuguese composer, Emmanuel Nunes is known primarily in Western Europe, where he has developed his compositional activity. His music goes beyond tonality. Emmanuel Nunes dominates the use of silence to create a universe of tension and contrast, giving a dynamic unity to his music.
MADALENA SOVERAL Madalena Soveral was born in Porto and studied piano at the Conservatory of Music of Porto as well as at the École Normale de Musique in Paris. As a student of her mother, she participated in classes and workshops from an early age, obtaining various prizes in Portuguese contests. In 1986 she received the prize "900 Musicale Europeo" from Naples. In Paris, where she was a scholarship recipient from the Secretary of the State for Culture, her studies continued under the guidance of Marian Rybicki, Reine Gianli and Claude Helffer. She attended the École Normale de Musique in Paris, where she obtained the "licence de concert". Since then she has assembled a vast curriculum, appearing in soloist and chamber music concerts, in Portugal, Spain, France, Brazil, Italy and Macau. She performed with the “Percussions de Strasbourg” during that group’s concert tour of Portugal. One result of this tour was the formation of the quartet, TETRA, with the percussionists Georges Vangucht and Christian Hamouy and the French pianist Jean-Louis Haguenauer, which has recorded a CD of works by Denisov.
