QUARTETO ARTEMSAX - ENTRE PAREDES

I-Tunes:

“Entre Paredes” is an ambitious project, which uses the music of Carlos Paredes in a very peculiar way, in the search for national identity. With it ARTEMSAX is led to merge the timbre and sound capacity, which characterizes a saxophone quartet, with the unique sound quality of Pulo Soares’ Portuguese guitar and with the superb interpretation of Ana Brandão on vocals. The stage show, with the same name, relies on the participation of the dancers Maria João Mirco and Nuno Gomes, on choreography and dance.

Details:

Artemsax Saxophone Quartet was formed in 1999 and is composed by João Pedro Silva on soprano saxophone, João Pedro Cordeiro on alto saxophone, Rui Costa on tenor saxophone and Hugo Gaito on baritone saxophone. The main goal of this group is to waken sensibilities, trying to promote a taste for the instrument, attempting, as a result, to create some interactivity with the audience, both in terms of the diversified repertoire it performs and in terms of the unique timbre and sound capacity that characterizes a saxophone quartet. The interest for technical and expressive improvement of the saxophone led this quartet to numerous Master Classes, where it worked with some of the most respected saxophone players on a national and international level, such as José Massarrão, Vincent David, Jean-Yves Formeau, Claude Delangle, James Houlik…
Since it was formed, the Artemsax Quartet has played in concerts in the main theatres in the country.
Integrated, as a soloist, the Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, having premiered a work for saxophone quartet and orchestra. By invitation from the 14th World Saxophone Congress, the quartet represented Portugal in Ljubljana, Slovenia. By invitation from Camões Institute and the Portuguese Embassy in Bissau, the Artemsax Quartet was on tour in Guiné-Bissau.
Artemsax Quartet, together with the Palmela Regional Conservatoire and with the Sociedade Filarmónica Humanitária, is responsible for the organization of the International Saxophone Festival of Palmela, integrating the program of it’s first and second editions.
