Miguel Torga - PORTRAITS AND LANDSCAPES

I-Tunes:

Angélica Neto, soprano
Jorge Correia, flauta/Paulo Vaz de Carvalho, guitarra
José Pinto, narrador e Camerata Senza Misura

We were requested to make a musical Homage to Miguel Torga and we have brought, through music, some portraits and landscapes that he wrote in prose and poetry. The music was composed by Carlos Azevedo, Eurico Carrapatoso, Fernando Lapa who were born and inspired by the harvest land; Paulo Vaz de Carvalho was born, departed and returned early to his homeland; Rudesindo Soutelo, a musician from Galiza and Jesús Legido, from Castela, heard the others say: “Benvindos ao reino maravilhoso!” (Welcome to the wonderful kingdom!).

Soutelo played the crow in “Vicente”— the one that exchanged his boat for freedom; Legido sang “Lembranças” (Memories). Upon the blue of the score, Lapa and Azevedo scribbled, in pale green, “Doiro” travelling inland and making a stop at “S. Leonardo de Galafura”, while Carvalho stood contemplating “A um Negrilho” (elm-tree) until it dried. Eurico eternalizes his river’s torrential splendor in “ O Mar” (The Sea) which he coupled with “Requiem por mim” (Requiem for me).

Torga’s writing has the dry hope of seeds, which can be born in any art, so we requested painters for Portraits and landscapes. The paintings were executed by Alberto Péssimo, Albuquerque Mendes, Benedita Kendall, Cristina Valadas, Evelina Oliveira, Graça Morais, Gracinda Marques, Henrique Silva, Isabel Padrão, Joana Rêgo, José Emídio, Luís Melo, Luísa Gonçalves and Teresa Gil. The resulting exhibition was presented in Portugal and Spain.
João Botelho conserved the memory of all this shooting “A terra antes do céu” (The earth before the sky) that premiered in Doc Lisboa 2007 and can be found in DVD.
In this manner the memory of the centenary of the writer was preserved in new and diversified works on canvas, cinema, and through written and recorded sound.
Each one, in his own way, chose which Torga to be.
