He formed a duo with the pianist Tjako van Schie, whose repertoire varies from classical to contemporary music. In the upcoming season they will record a CD with works by Rachmaninov.

He has inspired various composers to write music for the baritone saxophone. Chiel Meijering, Gijs van Dijk, João Pedro Oliveira, Carlos Marques, Virgílio Melo and Anke Brouwer have written contemporary pieces especially for him.

Since 1993 the baritone saxophonist Henk van Twillert has performed as a soloist with the Quintet of Soloists of Amsterdam. This cooperation has resulted in a number of successes, for example: Tango, a homage to Astor Piazzolla, with the violinist Sonja van Beek; A Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos and to the "Great Americans" with the violinist Emmy Verhey.

Henk van Twillert met Fernando Valente (who died in 1998) and his quartet in 1989 during a concert in Coimbra. An intense collaboration developed (workshops, masterclasses and concertos). Both may be considered founders of the Portuguese School of Saxophones. This resulted in the creation of the Department of Saxophones of Porto (ESMAE) in 1999. Together with the Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet, Fernando Valente recorded the CD "Encontros".

The Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet performed in the closing concert of EXPO'98 in Lisbon and at the inauguration of the Arena stadium in Amsterdam. In collaboration with the Dutch Chamber Choir, they performed the work "Gershwin in Blue".

In 1979 he was co-founder of the Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet. This quartet gave concerts and very successful “tours” throughout the world with respected musicians, such as: Hans Dulfer, Han Bennink, Daniël Wayenberg and Jaap van Zweden.

The saxophonist Henk van Twillert studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, with Ed Bogaard. He completed his Baritone Saxophone studies with distinction. He is currently one of the most esteemed Saxophonists in Europe.
