This CD presents world-premiere recordings of two very different concertos by António Victorino D’Almeida: the Concerto for Tuba, performed by the National Orchestra of Porto (ONP), with soloist Sérgio Carolino and the Concerto for Oboe and Strings, featuring Pedro Ribeiro, oboe, with the Orchestra of the Algarve. The disc closes with another previously unrecorded work by D’Almeida, the robust Divertimento for string orchestra, a commission by the Orquestra Metropolitana (performed here by the Brückner Orchester Linz). Taken in its entirety, this recording offers the listener an opportunity to explore the at times playful, at other times serene musical world of the composer in recent years, as well as providing an excellent portrait of the current state of orchestral performance throughout the country.
