Toque de Caixa - Histories of Sound

Histórias do Som (Histories of Sound)

I-Tunes:

BIOGRAPHY: “O Toque de Caixa” is Capricorn, born with the song of January, around Christmastime 1985. The musicians sought to create a new sonorous environment from their common taste for traditional music. The new and the old are elements of a fusion, a “New Traditional Music”. All the members of this band believe that truly innovative music is practiced by those who recognize the depth and complexity of the tradition. In order to know the way ahead it is good not to forget where you came from…the way back. “O Toque de Caixa” has participated in a number of concerts, festivals and musical encounters. To highlight a few: The José Afonso Festival of Popular Music (Coimbra) - (The band was considered by the jury and press: “The best and most original of the groups present...”, 1st Festival of the Northwest (Caminha), together with Milladoiro, Udazkenean Folk 92 (S. Sebastian) and Eco 92, Summit of Rio (Lisbon). They have given concerts in France, Spain and England, including two tours: The 1st in August of ’92, where they participated in the Festivals of Lincoln, Llangollen, Pontardawe, Garden Festival and the European Arts Festival. In the same years they performed in concert at the Barbican Centre of Londres; the Eurofolkus Festival in October, together with Maddy Prior, Dave Warbrick, Xuaco Amieva and Kathryn Tikell, among others; the concerto of the Festival of the People of Cantábria; and at the Encounters of the European Tradition. “One of the most creative and most consistent recordings in the history of music produced in Portugal.”
