Complete Sonatas for Piano - Fernando Lopes-Graça [Double CD]

The French magazine, Diapason, has described António Rosado as: “an interpreter who knows what he does. He displays as much emotion and poetry as he does colour and good taste.”
António Rosado’s career has won him recognition both at home and abroad. His talent and taste for diversity find expression in a vast piano repertoire which includes such diverse composers as Georges Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Albéniz or Liszt. Due to his versatility, he has given the Portuguese premieres of works such as Sonatas by Enescu or paraphrases by Liszt. He was the first Portuguese pianist to perform the complete Preludes and Etudes by Claude Debussy. His recitals also include the complete Sonatas by Mozart.
He made his first stage appearance at the age of four. Having received his early music training from his father, he then pursued his studies at the Lisbon Conservatory where he completed the Superior Piano Course with highest honors. At the age of 16, he traveled to Paris, where he studied with Aldo Ciccolini at the Superior Music Conservatory, with further studies in Siena and Biella (Italy).
He gave his first concert in 1980 with the National Orchestra of Toulouse, directed by Michel Plasson, and since that time, has played with various orchestras under distinguished directors: Georg Alexander Albrecht, Moshe Atzmon, Franco Caracciolo, Pierre Dervaux, Arthur Fagen, Léon Fleischer, Silva Pereira, Claudio Scimone, David Stahl, Marc Tardue and Ronald Zollman.
In the area of chamber music, he has likewise performed with remarkable musicians, namely Aldo Ciccolini, Maurice Gendron, Margarita Zimermann, Gerardo Ribeiro and Paulo Gaio Lima. With the latter, he has recently performed Beethoven’s complete work for violoncello and piano.
He has won awards at the Maurice Ravel International Academy (France) and the Perosi International Academy (Italy), as well as the Vianna da Motta International Competition (Portugal) and the Alfredo Casella International Competition of Naples. These awards mark the international recognition of his virtuosity and have helped launch a brilliant career which has included concerts and recitals all over the world and the participation in various music festivals. In the 1990’s he was chosen by TF1 for the recording and broadcast of three programs covering, respectively, Spanish and Portuguese music, Liszt, and a recital featuring works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Wagner-Liszt.
His first recording, devoted to Enescu, was made in Paris in the 1980’s. Others followed, namely Vianna da Motta’s piano works, a CD celebrating the 150th anniversary of Liszt’s visit to Lisbon, Schumann’s Fantasy and Liszt’s Sonata. With violinist Gerardo Ribeiro, he has recorded Brahms’s Sonatas for piano and violin and, recently, in partnership with Artur Pizarro, he has recorded a CD entitled, Mozart in Norway. With the NDR Sinfonieorchestra of Hamburg, he as recorded Concerto no. 2 and Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini by Rachmaninov. Recently, he recorded Brahms’s piano concertos with the National Orchestra of Porto.
